Many everyday behaviors that seem harmless and inconsequential are really bullying behaviors. Good kids, who wouldn’t want to or ever dream of being called bullies, may actually exhibit bullying behaviors. I Didn’t Know I Was A Bully! focuses on this group of children.
Lesson 1 includes a story in which each page communicates a significant message.
“I thought a bully was someone who sent viruses through a computer. I didn’t know I was a bully when I wrote bad things about you on the computer.”
“I thought a bully was someone who laughed and teased you. I didn’t know I was a bully if I laughed when others made fun of you.”
This cleverly-illustrated story, which can be reproduced for children, is followed by six lesson plans that give children more experience in recognizing subtle bullying behaviors. These lesson topics include: Exclusion, Friendship Bullying, Cyberbullying.
Lessons 2-5 include additional stories that focus on the topic being presented, discussion questions, and activities. Lesson 6 features bullying centers, allowing students to experience a variety of techniques that will help them recognize and further comprehend the bullying behaviors taught in earlier lessons.
Reproducible supplementary activity sheets and suggestions for presenting the program to Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5 are also included.
