Buddy's Granddad Gets Sick Student Involvement Pack |
|
Buddy experiences the issues that arise in a family when a loved one is very sick. Situations include problems that arise both at a hospital and in-home convalescence. Buddy observes physical changes in his granddad and learns to accept them. At first, Buddy feels anger when granddad moves into his home and requires the attention of Buddy's parents. After a time, Buddy learns to help rather than aggravate the situation. He then becomes familiar with the medical environment when granddad moves to the hospital. The school counselor gives Buddy four basic rules to help him in this difficult time: Be kind to others: All feelings are okay: Take care of yourself: Stay away from trash and medicines. The story is accompanied by questions to stimulate discussion of important issues.
